If you think you have to be a strong therapist to be able to give a great deep tissue massage, then think again. This class will dramatically change the way you view and approach bodywork for the better, and not just with your deep tissue clients, but with all your clients. With the understanding of massage strokes, and the practice of those new skills coupled with a review of your body mechanics, intention and the anatomy and physiology of the client that all manual therapists know, you can and will be an effective “deep tissue” therapist, despite your strength, stature or stamina. When you understand that the result of a deep tissue massage is to affect the deeper tissues in the body to bring about release of tension, adhesions, restrictions and increase relaxation, strength, flexibility and range of motion for the client, you will create the effect that you and your client desire. You do not have to “muscle” it and break into a sweat to offer deeper work for your clients who need it, but you can invite the tissue into your hands with the knowledge and techniques you will learn in this class.
Learning Objectives:
- Students will learn how to properly assess the client for a “Deep Tissue” (DT) session.
- Participants will review anatomy and physiology, for a current understanding of common indicators for DT manual therapy and learn the effects of our various strokes on the systems of the body. (Physiological vs. Anatomical)
- Students will receive a review of bony landmarks and common pathologies of the soft tissue.
- Participants will learn various, effective massage and bodywork strokes and techniques to apply in a DT session.
- Participants will learn how to define their intention, review body mechanics and learn how to save their hands and backs during a DT session.
- Participants will understand indications, contraindication, modifications and props for a DT massage session.
- Students will understand various Deep Tissue modalities including NMT, TPT, MFR, PRT.
