How to read this newsletter:

Every two weeks I put out a newsletter and each newsletter contains three poignant sections. The first section, opening the newsletter is my keynote article filled with powerful spiritual insights based on my lifetime of spiritual study, practice and teaching. The second section, in the middle of the newsletter, is devoted to our Accredited Continuing Education Programs, our healing facilities and what's new and happening in and around New Jersey Massage.  The third section is devoted to health, wellness and environmental issues.

I sincerely hope you get inspired by what you read and I ask you to share this newsletter with your friends and family. If you have read or come across something that is newsworthy, please forward it to me and perhaps we can include it our newsletter.
Much Love...Larry

Ten Things You Can Do Daily To Change Your Whole Game!

by Larry Heisler, M.A., LMT

"April hath put a spirit of youth in everything.

~William Shakespeare

It's time...and you know it.

How long can you procrastinate?

Spring has sprung, no more excuses,
It's long over due,

It's really time...
Time to
Step Up!

Here we go:

1. Eat a high protein, plant based diet

A study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine (September 2010) revealed that a low- carb diet that is heavy on proteins and fats from plants can reduce the risk of death from all medical causes. A quarter cup of any bean has the same amount of protein as one ounce of  meat and the addition of whole grains, nuts, seeds and fermented soy products like tofu, and miso can significantly improve your health. Substitute healthy fats for unhealthy. Get rid of the high fat dairy, cheese and meat for healthier sources of Omega -3 fatty acids like nut butters, seeds, avocados, olives, flax seeds, and mono-saturated oils like olive and walnut oil. Replace cows milk with healthier substitutes like soy, almond and rice milks.

2. Perform breathing exercises everyday.

Breathing exercise prepares ones mind for deeper contemplation and eventually leads to deep states of meditation.

In addition you will handle stress, fatigue and anxieties much better.

Try the Mahadavananda breath, this great Indian Yogi

used this breath to achieve great longevity.

Put your right pointer finger on your third eye, cover your right nostril with your right thumb. Breathe up your left nostril, hold the breath and close both nostrils, bring your chin down to your chest, tongue to the roof of your mouth and squeeze your butt. Hold...  now slowly lift your head and exhale out your left nostril. Now inhale in that same left nostril, hold the breathe and close both nostrils, chin to chest, tongue to the roof of your mouth, squeeze your butt again. Now slowly lift your head and exhale out your right nostril. Repeat entire sequence for three minutes. Perform four times a day; upon awakening, around lunch, when your return home from work and before you go to bed. Four times a day.
See what happens after a week!

3. Perform the Smiling Buddha Technique Daily

Smiling Budha

  http://img.constantcontact.com/letters/images/deleted_image.gif

This is an amazing I Chuan technique used by Tai Chi folks and martial artists alike to dramatically strengthen their body, boost their immune function and help them come into their power by developing the ability to become empty. My Tai Chi Sifu Gary Carbone says it's by becoming physically empty that we come into out ultimate power. Of course as a meditation teacher we teach the exact same thing. The fact that it really makes you healthier is very powerful but another amazing quality and I have found this out first hand, is that this technique opens the heart center. Try it and you'll see what I mean. Stand with your knees slightly bent, back straight, head square upon your shoulders with hands stretched out in front of you as if you were hugging a tree trunk. Have your hands facing you about the height of your pecs. Now for the next five minutes as you stand hugging an imaginary tree, just breathe and let go of all the stress in your body.

ONE LAST THING... YOU HAVE TO DO THIS SMILING.

Eventually in time you will do this standing meditation for a half hour, even an hour at a time. I have done this technique with every Tai Chi instructor I have ever worked with but never in all the years has anyone suggested to do this all the while with a smile on my face. Try it, it's an extraordinary technique.

 4. Try meditating every morning and every evening.

After your three minutes of the Mahadavananda breathe, close your eyes and as if there was a nose in the center of your chest breathe into your heart center.

Breathe in light or love, or a color and with each exhale, visualize the energy going up your spine out the top of your head.

Make you mind like a crystal clear lake with no ripples. When your mind wanders bring it back to your breathe. Do ten minutes and culminate by visualizing your day perfect, sending your loved ones healing thoughts, opening your heart to gratitude and thankfulness or do some healing work.

 5. Perform the Sun Salutation Everyday.

  http://www.yogaactivist.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Modified-Sun-Salutation-handout-yj1.jpg

6. Take Your Vitamins

According to the Harvard Nurse's Study every nurse that took a vitamin had their life extended three to five years. And that's not all, anti oxidants like alpha lipoic acid, co enzyme Q10, ester C, resveratrol, green tea, N-Acetyl-Cysteine, and on and on, significantly increase the life spans of laboratory animals and they will for you too.

7. Alkalize...

Cancer and every form of negative seems to proliferate in an acid bloodstream medium. Since all animal foods turn your bloodstream acidic, as well as simple carbs, sugar, soda, coffee and stress, odds are you are not half as healthy as you could be. Find a great source of alkaline water, like Fiji and Mineral Valley. Start your day off with a glass of that wonderful water and put a squeeze of lemon juice in it for good measure. Regularly use Himalayan Crystal Salt, consume miso soup or soup with miso in it, take apple cider vinegar baths or even an Epsom salt bath. Chew well and eat a lot of alkaline rich greens.

8. Get Flexible

"Rigor Mortis sets in way before you die."

Larry Heisler, M.A., LMT

Yoga, Tai Chi, Barre, Pilates, Dance, etc. are great for you.

It stands to reason that people who remain flexible live longer,
so
keep exercising, keep moving.

9. Serve others

"He that would be first amongst you, shall be your servant. The thing I like about that is that everybody can be first because everybody can serve.

Martin Luther King

 10. Get regular deep tissue massage.

As you age your muscles get shorter, tighter, and colder. The hardness begins to set in and as it does, it defines how you will move when you are old. Aging sucks for everyone similarly. Deep tissue massage breaks up that hardness and keeps it from setting in.

The medical massage we do is tantamount to the Fountain of Youth.

From here on in, you can call me Ponce`.

and now for

two IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS

Its spring, time to break up the winter hardness in your muscles with a couple of great deep tissue medical massages.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Compiled or written by Larry Heisler, M.A., LMT

What our teeth tell us:

about the history of human food consumption, anthropologically speaking:

Adults have 32 teeth, 20 molars for grinding (as in grains), 8 incisors for cutting (as in vegetables) and 4 canines for tearing into flesh. Thus fifteen percent of the teeth in your mouth are designed for animal food, eight-five percent of the teeth in your mouth are for grain and vegetable quality food.

HOW TO DO HANDS ON HEALING:

Breathe into your heart center and as you exhale visualize light in your forehead.

See it encompass your entire head. I have found that smiling after the inhale accentuates the light in your head.

Now continue..., on every breath this light expands to every cell of your body.

Let it encompass your entire being.

Imagine yourself engulfed in healing light.

Now clearly visualize the person you are sending this healing force to or put your hands on their body.

Again connect with the light in your head,

engulf yourself in light,

smile...

now focus and send it through your hands.

Expand your light to include them and see them from the top of their head to the tip of their toes completely perfect and bathed in the healing light.

Remember it does not come from you but through you.

Now hold with that and continue breathing and envisioning the light in your head.

WALL SQUATTING

Back in the 90's we had

Master Luke Chan come through our New Jersey Massage continuing education program. Master Luke was a wonderful Tai Chi/ Chi Kung instructor whose Sifu (teacher) was a Grandmaster at the world's largest medicine less hospital in China called the Huaxia Zhineng Qigong Clinic & Training Center. Seriously ill folks from all over China made there way to his teachers hospital and without modern medical intervention, they very often found dramatic health improvements and remission from their life threatening afflictions. One of the Chi Kung techniques taught looked simple but we were told it had profound healing implications, that it was a cure all. The technique is called Wall Squatting. By simply standing face forward against a wall, feet together, toes touching the wall, you work on squatting without falling on your bum. The ability to successfully perform this should not be underestimated because it is very difficult and develops keen flexibility opening up your spine, muscles and the very importantly your acupuncture meridians. So without falling you have to do one hundred of these wall squats at a time. They say it does amazing things for your health. Check out the link below.

Want to make a real statement?

Subject: Tell NY to label GMOs

Right now a new bill to label genetically engineered foods is about to be introduced in the New York state assembly and thousands of mothers, farmers and activists across the state are joining together to show their support! Citizens in 62 other countries enjoy the basic right of knowing if their food has been genetically engineered, but for the past 20 years Americans have been denied this basic democratic right.

Already the opposition is working behind the scenes and we need your help today! If passed, New York would become the first state in the U.S. to require mandatory labeling of GMOs in our food.

At the moment, 13 new GMO crops are awaiting approval at the USDA, including Dow Chemical's 2,4-D Agent Orange corn and the "botox" GMO apple. At the same time, the FDA is getting ready to approve genetically engineered salmon. If approved, Aquabounty's GMO salmon would be the first genetically engineered animal allowed on the market and it would appear on your plates unlabeled!

With your help, we can change that! Join us to help make GMO labeling a reality in New York!

If we are what we eat, let us know what we're eating! It's time to label GMOs. Join us to help make GMO labeling a reality in New York! Please sign the petition below to make your voice heard:
