GHOSTS! How we carry our ancestors around with us  by Larry Heisler, M.A., LMT

I went to a workshop at our Summit facility, the TerraSky Center, conducted by a very gifted intuitive and medium, Pam Meredith. A medium is someone who can connect with our deceased loved ones on the proverbial "Other side." You probably have seen John Edward on his television show (Crossing Over) or perhaps read a book by another famous medium and best selling author James Van Praagh. These exceptional individuals use their extrasensory abilities to give solace, insight and direct messages to us from our deceased loved-ones. For many of us, this talking to the dead is going to take a major stretch of your imagination to consider. But when you see it in person and they are saying things that absolutely no one on the planet would know about except for you and that significant deceased other, it is mind boggling. The mediums are clearly saying that there is no such thing as death and that death like Carl Jung posited is more a continuum of consciousness that carries on. Many of the folks I know have amazing after-life stories and you might remember that just recently I wrote about a near death experience in this newsletter.

As a minister and meditation teacher since the 1970's, I have experienced and been surrounded by many profound and unexplainable phenomena. My stories when shared make my friends scratch their heads in amazement. My meditation teacher, Hilda Charlton was so gifted after a lifetime of serious meditation practice and spiritual work that the physicians throughout the tri-state area would routinely confer with her. And many years now after her passing, her students still feel her presence and continually dream about her. Many exclaim they are still directly influenced by her. So when I tell you I completely believe in an after-life, it is based on my intense personal spiritual experiences. I will also add that it doesn't require you to believe any of it, not a shred. Thanatology, the scientific study of death and dying is a rich and fascinating area that will be bandied about and discussed seemingly forever. Why an individual chooses to incarnate on this planet and work out their past life karma (actions) or why a seeming innocent is born with a life threatening condition, can be nicely explained for people who believe in the confluence of life between the two worlds.

When introducing what we were about to experience at the workshop, Pam, our TerraSky medium shared something quite interesting. She said that many of us carry our deceased loved ones around with us and very often she feels their presence in the room with the person she is working with. She went so far as to say they sometimes travel along with their loved one remaining close as a support system. I guess it's like having your own personal family entourage. She went on to share that those individuals that are embroiled in their own melodrama very often cut themselves off from the solace and assurance they might feel or receive from loved ones on the other side. They are too filled up with self to hear, feel or connect.

In many Asian cultures, families often designate an area in the home to be a shrine for their deceased ancestors. The shrine will have pictures or personal effects of the family members with lit candles, food offerings and such. It would be the place where the family might meditate, pray or worship. A place where living family members could go to feel the strength and continuity of the past generations. Michio Kushi has often said there will come a time when you have to release the ghosts from your past and let them move along on their spiritual journey. That can only happen when you have become healthy enough to go the path of life without leaning outward. He personally told me that I should surround myself with the pictures and artifacts of those beloveds, to clear my consciousness with breathing exercises and meditation and then tell them that I am really strong, happy and OK and can go the path without their help. He said after a week of this process I would feel clearer and cleaner than I ever have in my life.

Of course the only way I know to achieve such a healthy state is by making a "Hellbent for Heaven" commitment in our daily practice. You are down here to EVOLVE! Meditation, optimal nutrition, exercise, supplementation and a spiritual perspective toward continued personal growth and service is the only dance there is and the sooner you get on the good foot the quicker the doors of consciousness will open.

Just the writing of these thoughts and considerations will put me on the kook list in some of my more sophisticated and intellectual circles but I don't care. I will tell you for me and profoundly so, after a lifetime of serious spiritual work and introspection, I can tell you unequivocally, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO SUCH THING AS DEATH! Think about it.

Ultimate Foot & Hand Medical Massage

with Larry Heisler, M.A., LMT
10-6pm 8 C.E. Hours
$175

Foot and hand work is something most massage therapists are weak in. Good foot work is the difference between a satisfied client and one that will go elsewhere. This class will help you hone your foot and hand work, giving you a new, fresh approach that will have your clients returning again and again for more. This deep tissue foot and hand approach includes the neuromuscular trigger point work that will eradicate pain and tension and combine the most powerful shiatsu points on the leg and arm extremity. These tsubos, known as the Go, Gen, Sei points are one the secrets to an extraordinary session. This is not a reflexology class that requires a completely different serious course of study but there is always a cross-over of information and technique. You will dig this class.

"Teacher excellent, he's a master of his art. This was an excellent course!"

HEADACHES AND MEDICAL MASSAGE
Hands on

10AM-6PM 8 CE Hours $175
with Larry Heisler, M.A., LMT

Over 45 million Americans (about one in six) suffer chronic headaches each year.  Headaches therefore have a big economic impact -- when you have a throbbing pain in your head, it's hard to work.  The cost of these headaches in absenteeism and medical expenses is estimated as high as $50 billion per year.  Annually, people seeking treatment for headache pain account for 8 million consultations with physicians.  There are multiple causes of headaches and while most of these causes are not in the domain of massage therapy, tension and structural causes which account for many, are.  Join us for a comprehensive look at headaches and a surefire treatment plan that can be utilized for headache sufferers regardless of what the cause might be.  We have created a sophisticated massage therapy protocol for headache relief combining medical massage techniques like trigger point therapy, connective and deep tissue bodywork with traditional shiatsu for the neck, shoulders and upper back.

"This was the class I much needed and hoped for. It provided many techniques I will use everyday with my clients. Larry goes beyond my expectations of an average class and presents an outstanding class. I will be back again for another of Larry's classes."

Read what others have said about this program:     "I was very impressed by the quality of Heisler's workshop, which he presented to more than thirty-five teachers and school administrators in our district. He really motivated the teachers to take an honest assessment of their current health and nutritional practices and strive to improve the quality of their life. Larry's straightforward approach and extensive teaching background were very well received."   Betty Lou Bionde, Principal Parsippany School District     "New Jersey Massage conducted nine programs for Selective employees during our annual Employee Appreciation Week. These well-presented seminars were a great fit with our focus on wellness and nutrition, and our employees were very enthusiastic about the important health and wellness insights they learned. Many have told us they were making changes recommended in the Ten Things You Can Do to Dramatically Improve Your Life. At our corporate headquarters, we are following through on concepts introduced in the New Jersey Massage Wellness series by working with our food services vendor to provide additional healthy eating choices for employees. Understanding factors that contribute to good health and making the parallel nutritional and lifestyle choices clearly boosts both our personal and professional lives." Gregory Murphy, Chairman, President and CEO Selective Insurance

How to change the way you move with medical massage.

As we get older our muscles get harder, shorter and colder, eventually settling into our body pattern and determining how we move in space the remainder of our lives. Can you say frozen in time? Your discomfort, your stiffness and inflexibility is normal, we all get that. That's what aging is. You've might have heard me say one of my famous lines, "Rigamortis sets in way before you die." The difference between the deep tissue, medical massage I do now and the fluff I did back in the 1970's is monumental. Very few therapists have lasted as long as I because the burn out rate is so very high and great massage can sometimes be like heavy construction work. After all, it took you years to get hard and tight. Just look in the mirror. Does your head tilt to one side? Is one shoulder higher than the other? Do your feet point outward and the heel of your shoes wear out on one side? Did the "S" curve of your spine become a "C"? Do your shoulders or neck jut forward? Does your pelvis tilt down on an angle? This happens to all of us, it's not just you. So what we do and what I teach is to break up your muscular hardness and frozen, cold zones, then unfreeze your connective tissue, and finally go about opening up your energetic system (acupuncture system). This approach boosts your bodies healing capabilities by significantly increasing your internal oxygen storehouse. Our style of MEDICAL massage addresses your soft tissue pain and frozen gait with sophisticated soft tissue techniques. We are massage experts literally slowing down the aging process and keeping you way more flexible and young. It doesn't happen overnight but it does happen! No one works on soft tissue more effectively than medical massage therapists and we trained an entire team of them.

  • Cellulite and Muscle Stripping Sessions
this is an amazing technique that renews your legs, strips down and lengthens the muscles and it is said touted as a technique that lessens the appearance of cellulite. Also great for athletes!

At our Parsippany, Livingston, Fairfield and North Caldwell offices.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Compiled or written by Larry Heisler, M.A., LMT

THOUGHTS ABOUT THE FLU VACCINE: FYI...Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Canada, Switzerland and Austria all banned the flu vaccine in 2012. When my best friend Dr. Wally was alive, he would rail against the flu vaccine. He would tell all of his patients about how poisonous and toxic it was. He would tell us that the mercury and aluminum in the flu vaccines were directly responsible for the rise in senile dementia and the side effects could be  life threatening. He told me that individuals that received the flu vaccine 5 years in a row were at the highest risk for early dementia.

The recent revelations about how Vitamin D is more effective immune system wise than the flu vaccine had yet to be a reality. There are approximately 1200 systems in our body that rely directly on vitamin D to function optimally and it decreases mortality from all causes by 33%. There is no way you can get high quality vitamin D from the sun during three out of four seasons a year and even during the summer, you must get at least ten minutes a day on at least one third of your body. So I take 5,000 IU's daily in my supplements, that is, three out of four seasons a year. I believe the research definitively shows that vitamin D is the Fountain of Youth! That is along with medical massage and a plant based diet.

Oh and by the way, Gary Null, the number one health show and health guru in America, on radio the other day (WBAI 99.5 FM) said that recent research shows that low blood levels of vitamin D are associated with an increased number of brain lesions and signs of a more active disease state in people with multiple sclerosis. This suggests a link between intake of the vitamin and autoimmune disorders. We have often been told that there is a direct link connecting the farther away we are from the equator and sunlight in general with a significant increase in MS.

THOUGHTS ABOUT NUCLEAR ISSUES:from Rose Marie Williams, Townsend Letter, Health Risks & Environmental Issues:

"Gregory B. Jaczko, former chairman of the NRC (US Nuclear Regulatory Commission), recently acknowledged, 'All 104 nuclear reactors now in operation in the US have safety problems that cannot be fixed, and they should be replaced with newer technology."

"By design, nuclear reactors must regularly release steam to lower the intense heat produced. Invisible radioactive particles are emitted into the atmosphere along with the steam and are carried on air currents, eventually falling to the ground with rain and snow. Forty years ago, this discovery was made very apparent when an unusual number of breast cancer cases in Albany, NY, was later  found to have a connection to above ground nuclear testing in Nevada six years prior. Air currents carrying radioactive particles from the testing site rained down over Albany during a thunder storm, setting off Geiger counters in a university lab. This unusual phenomenon was recorded by university students, helping explain the rise in breast cancer cases six years later. Many cancer hot spots are related to nuclear fallout carried by wind currents from distant locations, which later come down with rain or snow over a particular area."

Purchasing POTASSIUM IODIDE Tablets (KI):

In case of a nuclear emergency, it's a good idea to have some of these around (especially with the Fukushima nuclear disaster). It's a thyroid blocking agent by preventing the absorption of radioactive iodine that goes straight to the thyroid and causes cancer-especially in children. There was a much greater incidence of cancer in Chernobyl for the unprotected. Anyone can purchase these FDA approved tablets from ANBEX.com (866 463 6754) or Lifeextension.com (800 544 4440).

THOUGHTS ON ANTI AGING:

  • University of Louisiana reports that olive oil found to nourish brain cells by clearing beta-amyloid (a defining characteristic of Alzheimer's Disease) from the brain thus reducing the risk of Alzheimer's Disease.
  • Researchers from the Kyoto School of Medicine have discovered that "Exercise has the highest priority in the prevention of Alzheimer's disease."
  • High dose B vitamins help prevent shrinkage to the area of the brain that atrophies in Alzheimer's and subjects receiving the B vitamins showed significantly less brain degeneration and cognitive decline.

"that the more aggressive the cancer cells are, the more effective the grape extract works at targeting and stopping the growth." The lab of Rajesh Agarwal, PhD, released the following statement, "We've known for quite a while that the bioactive compounds in grape seed extract selectively target many types of cancer cells."

How do you know you are not free?

You feed your EGO, your lower self, as you react negatively. You get angry, impatient, vindictive, jealous, fearful, when you don't get your way. As you strengthen your mind, you'll cut through life's melodrama, slice the darkness with your higher resolve, put your power behind your heart and mind and create a force. And this force can change your world and the world around you. Winston Churchill once said, "When I look back on all these worries, I remember the story of the old man who said on his deathbed that he had a lot of worries in his life, most of which never came to pass."
