How to hold your center in the midst of chaos!                                                                          by Larry Heisler, M.A., LMT

"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.                                                                                      Eleanor Roosevelt

Jim and Scott go out every morning for a walk and to buy the daily newspapers. When they arrive at the newspaper stand, Jim proceeds to the counter. "Good morning, he says to the owner. "What's so good about it, the owner grumbles and continues by barking, "What do you want today?" "I'd like a N.Y. Times and the local paper please," says Jim. The owner throws the papers down, grabs the cash and walks away. Jim goes back to walking with Scott. "What's wrong with that guy?" Scott says, "Doesn't that bother you?" Jim turns to Scott and says, "His behavior is unfortunate, he obviously has some real issues to address but I don't allow another person to decide for me how I am going to feel for the rest of the day. His negative behavior is his problem, if I react to it, it becomes mine. I've decided I'm not going to let that happen any longer."

Learning how "not" to play victim is a very sophisticated yoga that eventually leads one to an enlightened state of awareness and at the very least keeps us a lot healthier. This simple story illustrates clearly how not to give away your power, how not to be used and enslaved by another's emotionally neurotic lair.

So being firm and holding your center in the midst of chaos is a spiritual challenge and is the "Master's Path." It certainly beats being dragged through the emotional meat grinder on a daily basis. Every time you indulge in the luxury of your emotional lower self (EGO) with anger, inferiority complex, insecurity, jealousy, disappointment, etc. you put gaping holes in your personal energy field. Your energetic system and your chakra's leak out vital chi life force, draining you of your energy storehouses and making you susceptible to all sorts of physical illness and complaints. This form of emotional immuno-suppression, will age you, turn your bloodstream acidic and make you susceptible to what's ever out there. You can't serve and uplift and fulfill the Prime Directive to grow and serve if you are bankrupt in the personal energy department. It must spring naturally from an overflow and because it's so easy to get wrapped up in the negative, lower emotions of life, it takes real practice and strategies to get and keep free. Let's face it; the negative force on this planet would like nothing better than to keep you from coming into your power and keep you from fulfilling your destiny.

When I was younger I remember Michio Kushi saying that anger indicates a mind that is enslaved. I love that notion, so whenever I would get angry I would remind myself that I possessed a mind of slavery. Instead of going with the flow of life, getting the spiritual lesson and creating harmony, I would get seriously disappointed, have my day ruined and throw a full blown tantrum (wahhh, wahhh, like a big baby). The great meditation master Hilda Charlton would continually remind us that our arms are too short to box with God and that we shouldn't indulge our egos in the, "luxury of woe."

How do you know you are not free? You feed your ego, your lower self, as you react negatively. You get angry, impatient, jealous, and fearful when you don't get your way. As you strengthen your mind, you'll cut through life's melodrama, slice the darkness with your higher resolve, put your power behind your heart and mind and create a force. And this force can change your world and the world around you.

Developing emotional clarity is the process of getting off the pendulum of sensation, of reaction. Happy.....sad.....happy.....sad, the up's and down's of an emotional roller coaster life. When the outside world decides for us how we feel, we are a slave. Sai Baba says, "In praise and blame, always the same." Sounds like good advice to me. After all, how do you get to Carnegie Hall?  Practice!

Winston Churchill once said, "when I look back on all these worries, I remember the story of the old man who said on his deathbed that he had a lot of worries in his life, most of which never came to pass."

Headaches and Medical Massage

with Larry Heisler, M.A., LMT
Tuesday, Sept. 3, 10-6pm
8 CE's $175

Over 45 million Americans (about one in six) suffer chronic headaches each year.  Headaches therefore have a big economic impact -- when you have a throbbing pain in your head, it's hard to work.  The cost of these headaches in absenteeism and medical expenses is estimated as high as $50 billion per year.  Annually, people seeking treatment for headache pain account for 8 million consultations with physicians.  There are multiple causes of headaches and while most of these causes are not in the domain of massage therapy, tension and structural causes which account for many, are.  Join us for a comprehensive look at headaches and a surefire treatment plan that can be utilized for headache sufferers regardless of what the cause might be.  We have created a sophisticated massage therapy protocol for headache relief combining medical massage techniques like trigger point therapy, connective and deep tissue bodywork with traditional shiatsu for the neck, shoulders and upper back.

Positional Release Therapy

with Dr. Henry Roth, DC, NCTMB
Sunday, Sept. 8, 10-6pm
8 CE's $175

This gentle, manual biomechanical mobilization technique places the client's body in a comfortable position for 90 seconds which in turn allows the body to reset the problem muscle to normal, thereby setting the stage for the condition
to resolve and heal itself. You will learn all the right moves to ease 21 types of muscle pain, from a stiff neck to an aching back. This therapeutic approach is based on the idea that each person and each pain is "one of a kind." Since the way people store pain is unique, effective treatment must
take that uniqueness into account. This course has not been available for massage therapists in any of the continuing education programs available today. Now you have a chance to learn this very simple yet powerful technique that you can teach your clients for their self care.

"This is a first! Dr. Henry is the amazing therapist who taught us all how to table stretch our clients. Now he is continuing by teaching us the next cutting edge modality to add to our arsenal of effective massage therapy skills."
Larry Heisler, M.A., LMT

Emotional Release Raindrop Technique

with Joan Apter, LMT
Monday, Sept. 23, 10-6pm
8 CE's $225

Balancing the emotional field is crucial to health and well being and is the first step towards healing chronic illness. Every physical symptom of the body has an emotional component. Essential Oils are the steam-distilled lifeblood of plants. They contain a frequency that is several times greater than the frequency of herbs and food. As such they can help assist in the release of negative emotions, such as anger, resentment, fear and trauma. The Emotional Release Raindrop Technique protocol will be demonstrated in full, followed by 2 hands-on session in which you will both give and receive a Raindrop, followed by questions and answers and safety precautions. You will also learn more about the therapeutic grade essential oils utilized for this specific technique. Joan will teach you how to add a powerful new modality to your practice, and boost your income!

This class is appropriate for Massage Therapists, Nurses, L.P.N's, Naturopathic doctors, Chiropractors, Physical Therapists, Assisted Living staff, Spa owners and all Health Care providers.

The Emotional Release Raindrop uses "The Feelings Kit" from Young Living Essential Oils. You must have purchased the Feelings Kit before the class, so you will be ready to practice after the class. Please order your kit from the school.

The Deep Tissue Massage Therapy Facialfor all Health Care Providers

with Larry Heisler, M.A., LMT
Tuesday, Sept. 24 10-6pm
8 CE's $175

The Deep Massage Therapy Facial is not the typical facial received at a salon by a cosmetologist or an esthetician, rather it is one uniquely designed for us, the massage therapist

It is our belief that combining deep tissue massage with organic skin care products is a great idea! It seems like every time I have gotten a facial or a hot stone treatment, afterwards, I would walk out so relaxed that I could hardly talk but that would just make me more aware of how tight and stiff my body was. If I could just get someone to address the aches and pains along with taking my brain away... well, you get the idea. What's even more exciting is that as you dramatically increase circulation to shoulders, neck and face, using our specially designed deep tissue techniques,
you make your client look significantly younger. Add some wonderful foot and hand massage and an aroma rich hot towel facial hydrotherapy and voila;

We will teach you all the components of a great facial massage including the creation of and a` la carte menu of services for your office practice - from the equipment and supplies needed, to the actual application of products with the strokes and techniques utilized.   As massage therapists, we do not do extractions, analyze or diagnose skin problems and/or treat or prescribe products. We stay completely within the scope of our practice and frankly, it's the best thing that can happen to someone's face because the results speak for themselves. Deep tissue massage combined with organic skin care is the fountain of youth and we will show you how to master it. Join us for this all day hands-on presentation with its creator, our very own, Larry Heisler.

Dramatically increase your earning potential and offer your clients these valuable additional services.

"I love coming to this school."
Lois Bass, LMT

Compiled or written by Larry Heisler, M.A., LMT

I have lost a lot of very dear friends and family to cancer and specifically gynecological cancers like breast cancer. Time and time again, you have heard me talk about the relationship between diet and cancer. I know I can be trying at times. In my office I routinely hand out studies showing the relationship between consuming animal food and degenerative disease. For women, the more animals a woman eats the more female cancers she gets. We are talking about breast, cervical, uterine, ovarian, bowel, etc. The fewer animals a woman eats the less cancer she gets.

•'s time to change from toxic technology mammography to infra-red thermography. Thermography can detect changes in breast tissue 8 to 10 years earlier than any other test. The FDA has cleared Thermography. It is pain free, radiation-free and has NO HARMFUL SIDE EFFECTS. For many years now I have been talking about how thermography is the future of breast cancer screening w/o the toxic effects. If your doctor told you that for every mammography you receive, you can take off 6 months of life or even a year, would you still do it? Especially if there was a technology available that was completely safe? It's time for a major change. Watch this video.

  • One of my favorite physicians is Cornell University researcher Dr. Michael Greger. In this video Dr. Greger, M.D. outlines the direct relationship between erectile dysfunction and early death. Essentially the research indicates that small capillaries in the reproductive organs give an early showing of what might be happening to your arteries and cardiovascular system in general. Many men that have been interviewed after a heart attack or stroke have shared that years prior to the event they started having erectile dysfunction. Now I think I know why there are so many Viagra commercials. Check out his video, it's short and eye opening.

  • Why is President Bill Clinton a vegan? He tells you in his own words. Fascinating!

  • My friend Melanie Waxman is a master macrobiotic chef and counselor. She posted a terrific refreshing summer drink that you can prepare for your Labor Day festivities. You can check out her blog below.

"This wonderful and refreshing drink is ideal for the scorching days of summer. Often it seems that I buy a whole watermelon and the leftovers end up sitting in the fridge. I wanted to come up with an easy and yummy way to use those extra pieces.  This lovely drink is the result and it makes you feel cool, before you even take a sip. Pink Watermelon Lemonade is a fab addition to any relaxing afternoon. And the added benefits are that watermelon is very relaxing and great for heart and kidney health. Enjoy xx"

1 cup strawberries
Pinch sea salt
8 cups watermelon cut into pieces
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
Dash maple syrup or to taste
1/2 cup water
Stick celery

Place the salt, strawberries, watermelon, water and lemon into a blender.
Blender until smooth. Add a dash or maple syrup and continue to blend.
Serve chilled with a stick of celery and mint.
