An excerpt from Larry's as yet unpublished book entitled,
  by Larry Heisler, M.A., LMT

Many years ago I was privileged to meet an extraordinary woman. She was born challenged with hemophilia. My understanding is women rarely get this type of illness. It is primarily a male inherited disease. Never the less, she was afflicted, and with the backdrop of a summer campfire on Martha's Vineyard, she began to tell me her story:

"You know Larry, death does not exist," she quipped as if it were a matter of fact. Therein, she began to weave a phenomenal story of how she had witnessed her own near death experience. "I was running through the park in Queens, tripped on some rocks on the path and slammed my side up against a large boulder. Unbeknownst to me, I had severed my spleen and in short order collapsed, unconscious on the running trail. Other friends came along and knowing my personal story, I was rushed to the emergency room. Lying on the gurney, unconscious, I slipped out of my physical body. Standing there, unseen by those around, in what could best be described as my light body or spiritual form, I watched the whole frenzied scene unfold. The emergency room staff was professional and well equipped. The attending physician barked orders to the staff in a mad attempt to save my life. The tension was high, one of the orderlies tried to break the intensity by telling a joke. I heard and saw everything. After much ado, they pronounced 'She's gone', except I wasn't really. After some time, I found myself traveling down a bluish gray tunnel. Upon my arrival to the "other side", the deceased members of my family were eagerly awaiting. My grandparents were there, a favorite uncle, a couple of aunts, my dog, my first parakeet and the corner barber that would come out of his shop in the afternoons to give me a lolly-pop as I walked home from school . This was a reunion filled with incredible happiness and joy, crying and hugging. I was free, but still felt my humanity connected to the body lying in the hospital bed below. After a short period, I felt drawn, beckoned to a distant light. As I moved closer to what can only be described as a force, my life unfolded in front of me in a chronological order. I got to see how I became who I was. What circumstances influenced how I turned out. I immediately understood how I became me and the influences that shaped my very existence. With my new awareness came an understanding, a kind of completeness. Almost as quickly, I found myself enveloped by a force, a blinding light.  Perhaps more like an incredible loving wholeness, as if I was being caressed and in the embrace of the hands of God. Then telepathically, in my minds ear, I heard two questions posed; 'What did you learn? And, who did you help?' As I attempted to respond to these questions, I inwardly heard, `Your work is yet unfinished, you must return..........' Immediately, I found myself again traveling, returning, past my loved ones, down the bluish gray tunnel, into the hospital building, into the hospital room, into the hospital bed, into my body. I was the miracle comeback story of the month. In due time, I connected individually with all the members of the emergency team and shared my experience with them and my sincere thankfulness. The staff were amazed by my story but perhaps even more so, that I had actually made a comeback. When I repeated the joke the staff member shared during the ordeal and found the pen, under the radiator, the physician lost in all the hub bub, they all went wild. I now know fully, from the deepest part of my being, that death does not exist".

Her story transformed a simple campfire into a magical life teaching. I felt sincere thankfulness and genuine inspiration. But I couldn't help repeating to myself those two questions over and over again, "What did you learn and who did you help?", "What did you learn and who did you help?"   So accordingly, the Prime Directive on this planet, the reason you are here:

1. To grow in everyway you can and

2. To uplift, inspire and serve,
wherever you may go.

Saturday, Feb. 9, 10am-5pm

New Jersey MANDATORY LICENSING for massage and bodywork practitioners has arrived and we are required to obtain a license on or before August 31, 2013.
After that date, it will be illegal to practice massage in New Jersey without a license.

Are you ready? What does the process entail? How will you satisfy the licensing requirements?

In this class, licensed New Jersey Attorney and Licensed Massage Therapist, Stephen Parker, Esq., LMT will explain the new law and the application process.
The Rules offer a number of paths to licensure, including schooling, national exams and prior work experience.  In addition to his review of relevant laws and regulations, during this course, Steve will offer one on one guidance for practitioners on their best options for obtaining a license. This course will also include a detailed review of the current regulation as well as discussions regarding advertising law; sexual misconduct; negligence and other grounds for legal liability; privacy requirements for massage practitioners, malpractice insurance and other business issues for massage practitioners. The information is presented in a highly interactive manner and students will be provided with copies of the current Regulations and the Application for Certification.

For applicants whose school curriculum did not include legal topics, the 7 hours of continuing education in this course satisfy the legal class requirement for Grandfathering.

Supercharge Your Swedish Massage with Shiatsu

with Larry Heisler, M.A., LMT

Thursday Feb. 28, 10-6pm

8 CE Hours $175

Shiatsu is a deeply powerful and complete form of bodywork, respected worldwide and based on thousands of years of empirical data. What's more profound is that the meridian system and its specific acu-points have a deep influence on our musculature, the internal organ conditions and the immune and nervous systems. Join us for this one day workshop, where Larry will teach you how to add the most powerful shiatsu lines and points to supercharge your Swedish massage.

"The first 8,000 massage treatments I performed in my career were Traditional Barefoot Shiatsu sessions. I had studied for years with the Macrobiotic and Japanese Masters Michio Kushi and Sensei Masahiro Oki and was amazed at their breath of wisdom, power and effectiveness. There wasn't any type of overhead bar or other props in the early 1970's and you did not walk on your client's body. Instead it was a very sophisticated form of bodywork using many parts of your own body to treat your client while concentrating on the energy lines called meridians and specific acupuncture points called tsubos."   Larry Heisler, M.A., LMT

A compilation of great thoughts for health and wisdom.
by Larry Heisler, M.A., LMT

BY Larry Heisler, M.A., LMT

People repeatedly ask me about what I have uncovered, what's new in the world of organic foods and products. So here's a list of some extraordinary items that we have been enjoying. Remember Larry's simple life adage,

Broccoli sprouts- Add these to your salads. When you sprout a seed, the origin of life is revealed in a profound and dramatic increase of nutrition. Broccoli sprouts contain all the antioxidant, anti cancer power of their parent sulforaphane producing family. Study after study point to these sprouted beauties as being major players in dynamic health. You can read about all the studies at this site,

Miso-study after study has confirmed that the alkaline rich fermented soybean paste called miso, which is usually consumed in a traditional soup consumed daily in Japan and now all over the world, has dramatic health benefits. Alkalizing the blood stream is been cited as a major health contributor and the daily consumption of this probiotic rich soup has been touted as halving the cancer rate of individuals consuming it daily. There are many wonderful companies producing this rich soybean gold, South River Brand, Eden, Mitoku.  I put miso into my soups at the very end of the cooking cycle. So whether you are making lentil, split pea, barley mushroom, whatever, miso goes in at the very end. Being so rich in probiotics from the fermentation, miso is not to be boiled.
Read some more about it

Removing Phytates from grain, beans, seeds, nuts- "Phytic acid (known as inositol hexakisphosphate (IP6), or phytate when in salt form), discovered in 1903, is the principal storage form of phosphorus in many plant tissues, especially bran and seeds.  Phytate is not digestible to humans or nonruminant animals, however, so it is not a source of either inositol or phosphate if eaten directly. Moreover, it chelates and thus makes unabsorbable certain important minor minerals such as zinc and iron, and to a lesser extent, also macro minerals such as calcium and magnesium."

Phytates can interfere with the absorption of minerals and can have a deleterious effect upon individual health and well being so traditional cultures developed many ways to counteract the negative effects. Some of them include; soaking over night in warm water with an acid medium like lemon juice or apple cider vinegar, baking on low heat for many hours, combining different grains and beans and soaking together, reusing fermented soak water, sour dough starters and sprouting. This is such an evolved topic that some research on your part is required and I have included some links. On my part I've been purchasing some products that have already been sprouted, soaked, baked, etc. Like Eden beans in BPA free cans that are soaked and cooked with Kombu seaweed or Ezekiel sprouted grain breads. There are companies like Two Moms in the Raw that make organic seed and nut bars that are soaked and sprouted and you can now purchase sprouted, soaked and baked seeds. All of this soaking, baking, sprouting, etc. can have a very positive effect upon your health.

Other products that are worth adding to your daily diet and worth your attention:

Himalayan Crystal Salt-
contains all the trace minerals. Unlike simple table salt (NaCl) is alkaline (I purchase it at .

Fermented Foods- Foods fermented in brine (no vinegar) increase nutrient absorption and alkalinity. Pickles (cucumber, daikon, kombu, other vegies), sauerkraut, kim chee (Trader Joes has a natural source of Kim Chee in the vegie aisle).

A couple of other thoughts:

  • Recent evidence suggests that a plant based diet can significantly reduce pain.
  • People that have received the flu vaccine five seasons in a row are said to have significantly higher percentages of senile dementia. The thinking is that these vaccines contain appreciable amounts of aluminum and up until recently mercury. Read the links about this. forget the flu shot take vitamin d instead
